Flight time
Friday August 17th
I woke up very early and noticed I had a missed call on my phone. Godfrey had been trying to contact me. The coverage on the island is generally very poor, with passing ships causing the calls to drop, so I had no way to contact him back.
Before I had time to think, I received an e-mail from Godfrey asking if I could come flying. He had called Deirdre who explained my...
Helms alee!
Friday August 10th
Deirdre had been telling me for a while about an upcoming sailing class at the yacht club. It was taking place over a number of days though and would require me to stay at Deirdre’s as it would involve early mornings and late nights.
I hadn’t been sure if I’d be working or not, but found out on short notice that I would be available on the days of the...

Friday Aug 3rd
I left my island for another island, Alameda, for dinner with Clark, my Texan boss from last year (pictured in last entry).
We went to a REALLY authentic Chinese place. We were the only
non-Chinese people there. Clark had a Chinese friend translate the
menu for him in advance so he knew which items were safe to point at. I’d never done the chopsticks thing before, but we...
Touching Base
I relocated again on July 15th to what is my permanent home for the
summer in SF. I now live in a Naval Base on an island!!
It’s without doubt the coolest place I’ll ever get to live.
It took a few days to adjust to the total silence only broken by
ships’ foghorns, shrieking seagulls and low-flying aircraft.
It’s very difficult to describe but I’ve never...

Drugs.. drugs.. more drugs..
It’s been a while because I try to avoid updating in real time. People like a happy ending, and I like to provide one. I don’t want to make an entry on a day where I will end up leaving people worried about me (mainly family - “where is she moving to NOW???”), so I prefer to write everything in hindsight when I know the outcome.
I spent most of last week house hunting for...
Fame
Today I’ve learned a very important lesson. One must never be presumptuous. Last year, living in the Mexican district of San Francisco (the Mission), Cathy, the boys and I would regularly consume Burritos from our local food place. The Mission is as Mexican as it gets. It’s pretty rare to find English anywhere. In Ireland, we are not taught Spanish. I studied French and German, but...

Appleitus
Moved for the THIRD time in 5 days on Tuesday evening. I’m living at
Kelley’s at the moment. She’s away on a business trip so I’m house-sitting. It’s SO wonderful to get peace and quiet and time to write and a proper bed (as great as Orlaith’s partially inflated air bed was!).
There are pros and cons to living out of a suitcase. I can’t remember
the...
Departing Berkeley..
I hate being out of touch with the news, both local and the news back home. I have to get online to find out about the fires in Tahoe (where I have friends living), Chris Benoit killing his family and then himself?? I came upon a horrid accident yesterday; a man got hit by a car on the crosswalk in Berkeley, the car jumped the red light. I can’t find anything about it online, but the...
Spending too much time in Apple drooling over things I should not buy.
